Joe Houssian is the former President, CEO and Chairman of Intrawest. In 1986, he recognized the potential for a destination resort industry, based on the growing affluence of the Baby Boomers and their quest for experiences they could share with family and friends. He engineered the acquisition of Blackcomb Mountain in 1986 and took the company public in 1990 (Vancouver, Toronto and Vancouver stock exchanges and, soon, the New York Stock Exchange). Under Mr. Houssian’s leadership, Intrawest became the world's largest planner, designer, builder and operator of destination resorts and resort villages. In 2007, he oversaw the sale of the company to Fortress Investment Group LLC for $2.8 billion.
