Tourism Growth Leads to Increased Air Access to Loreto Bay

Loreto Bay, Baja California Sur, Mexico (February 12, 2007) — Continental Airlines announced today the launch of twice-weekly non-stop flights from George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston (IAH) to Loreto International Airport (LTO) scheduled to begin on June 7, 2007.  Loreto and its surrounding region in Baja California Sur, Mexico has experienced an exponential increase in tourism development during the last few years. Increased awareness of The Villages of Loreto Bay, the largest sustainable resort community in North America currently in construction, has been the main driver of the rapid economic and tourism growth in the region.

Identified over 25 years ago as a prime tourism destination in Mexico by FONATUR, Mexico’s tourism development agency, Loreto Bay’s tourism offerings have greatly appealed to U.S. and Canadian travelers.  “Continental Airlines’ new twice-weekly flight from Houston, in addition to four weekly non-stop flights by Alaska Airlines and Delta’s current daily non-stop service from Los Angeles to Loreto, allows travelers easy access to Loreto Bay, a true jewel of Baja waiting to be discovered,” stated Jim Grogan, president and CEO of Loreto Bay Company. “Continental Airlines’ interest in serving Loreto clearly shows how increasingly popular the region is becoming. This new flight will now connect over 80 cities from across the nation to Loreto through Houston.”

Sitting peacefully on the shores of the Sea of Cortés, the region welcomes adventurous travelers looking for something new.  Vacationers can snorkel, scuba or kayak the world-renowned Loreto National Marine Reserve which is home to thousands of species of marine life. Loreto Bay also offers a 5,000 acre nature preserve for biking, horseback riding and hiking in the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains.  The Inn at Loreto Bay offers numerous packages to satisfy the most diverse traveler.

In addition to tourists, potential home buyers are eager to visit the unique community growing in the area. The Villages of Loreto Bay combines environmental stewardship and prime beachfront location that are unmatched in Baja. The community is part of the $3 billion development which will create a series of seaside villages of approximately 6,000 homes built on 8,000 acres.  With over 700 homes sold to date, U.S. and Canadian home buyers definitely have their eyes on Loreto.
