Ariel Klein was born in Chicago and raised in Southern California. In the 70s Ariel lived in the countryside of British Columbia. It was there that her two daughters, Shanti and Radha were born and where she met David and Norma Butterfield, who were also homesteading in BC. In 1976, Ariel and her family moved to Oregon where she lived for 27 years.

After college, teaching was Ariel's first career. Very entrepreneurial in spirit, she later became a restaurateur, and then owned an executive recruiting firm. Over the last four years her sales and marketing interests led her to the field of real estate where she became a realtor for REMAX in Portland, Oregon.

When David Butterfield approached Ariel with his idea of a sustainable community in Mexico, she was ready to join the venture. In the summer of 2003 she became an investor in Loreto Bay and then in September joined the first sales team, which operated out of the offices of the Trust for Sustainable Development in Victoria, B.C. At the first sales event in November 2003, Ariel bought a Casa Encantada in the “Founders' Neighborhood”.

Since the company was headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ, it was a logical relocation option, so in January 2004 Ariel and her lifetime partner, Peter Boddy, moved to Scottsdale, AZ where both of them are now part of the Loreto Bay family.

Ariel and Peter hope to spend time in their Loreto home for vacations, and eventually retire there.
