“The starting point for a better world is the belief that it is possible.” – Norman Cousins
The principles of sustainable development behind The Villages of Loreto Bay go beyond preserving Loreto’s environment. We have also established an independent, Mexican, not-for-profit corporation which receives one percent of all Loreto Bay sales as a corporate donation. The foundation, whose formal name is Fundación Bahía de Loreto, was established by The Trust for Sustainable Development, Loreto Bay’s parent company. Its purpose is to serve the social, educational, ecological and business needs of Loreto and the surrounding region, which are growing and changing with the development of The Villages of Loreto Bay, just seven miles to the south.
Building homes, creating jobs
The foundation will help build affordable housing for the citizens of Loreto. Another key part of the foundation’s mission is to create jobs. Some 2,000 jobs will be provided during the construction of The Villages and another 5,000 permanent jobs will be created in hospitality, eco-tourism, agriculture and the arts, offering the people of Loreto a chance to take part in the area’s promising future.
Over $1 million dollars has been contributed to the Loreto Bay Foundation by Loreto Bay Company so far, with over 3 million dollars pledged. Below are some grants awarded by the Loreto Bay Foundation in 2006:
o Support for construction of a medical facility in the town of Loreto
