“I've got to admit it's getting better.
It's a little better all the time.”
– The Beatles

Preserving and enhancing the ecosystem locally and globally.

Respect and care for the environment is one of the cornerstones of sustainable development. The old model of development meant building cities that wreaked havoc on the environment in one place and establishing parks and preserves in another place where nature could remain untouched. Sustainable development proposes an entirely different model, one where nature and the needs of the community are balanced. Where we can live in a setting of natural beauty and enjoy the comforts and conveniences of modern life, without sacrificing either one.

Bill Reed on Sustainable Development Loreto

How does it work?

The principles of environmental sustainability are straightforward and clear, but the implementation requires a great deal of forethought, planning and intimate knowledge of the area. For example, every winter the waters near Loreto are home to the blue whale, the largest mammal in the world and a short drive across the peninsula gray whales, who migrate from the Bering Strait in Alaska to bear their calves.  There are seven different types of whales that can be found in the Loreto Bay marine park, but the number of whales in the park are fewer than there used to be. Therefore, they need to be protected.  Knowing this, we're working closely with numerous conservation groups to preserve the ecologically sensitive marine environment here.
